About Charmaine Pwerle
Charmaine Pwerle was born in Alice Springs in 1975. She is the daughter of Barbara Weir and granddaughter of the famous Minnie Pwerle. Her life has been surrounded by some of the most extraordinary Aboriginal artists of our time including Emily Kngwarreye, Gloria Petyarre as well as Minnie , which gave her a strong desire to paint and represent traditional stories that were part of her heritage. Charmaine’s main inspirations are the Antwengerrp area and Awelye (women’s ceremonies and body paint). The women paint each others breasts and upper bodies with ochre, before dancing in a ceremony.
